Pictured Rocks Days 2018

Munising, MI and its Pictured Rocks attract visitors the world over, but there’s one weekend a year the area dedicates to locals – Pictured Rocks Days, also known as Yooper Days. People who live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, known as “Yoopers,” can enjoy two days filled with activities and family events focused on them. This year, Yooper Days are June 9-10. Here is a list of some of the fun you can expect if you make your way to Munising from Marquette, the Keweenaw, the Soo, or any other town in the U.P.

Activities for Yooper Days 2018

Expect lots of fun and sun near the Bayshore Park area, where the city has scheduled two days of entertainment. When you are making your way to Munising, plan to hit a raptors nature show, listen to some live music, or laugh with a clown. Check out the fun for this year’s Yooper Days.

The schedule for Saturday is jam-packed:

  • 10-12am – Enjoy music by Jan Arnold
  • 12-1pm – Learn about raptors and other birds of prey at the Chocolay Raptors Nature Show
  • 1-3pm – Listen to the tunes of the Derrell Syria Project
  • 3-4pm – Discover another viewing from the Chocolay Raptors Nature Show
  • 5-6pm – Dance to the sounds of the Flat Broke Blues Band

Sunday’s list of fun includes:

  • 10-12pm – Music by Jan Arnold
  • 12-1pm – Bring the kids for the Roscoe the Clown Show
  • 1-3pm – Tap your toes to the music of The Palestras
  • 3-4pm – Laugh along with the Roscoe the Clown Show

While that’s already plenty to keep a Yooper busy, there’s a lot more fun scheduled. Some activities include kayak demos, a petting zoo, arts and crafts tables, bounce houses, and seeing sled dogs. Of course, expect a plethora of food options from local vendors and a beer tent for when you get thirsty. Yoopers also get free admission to Pictured Rocks cruises. Just bring a photo ID and get there early – there are only 1,500 tickets available for each of the two days. While it’s unlikely all 300,000 Yoopers will show up, there will be enough to necessitate some early planning.

Make Some Time to Paddle Michigan

Time slots for Paddling Michigan kayaking adventures get snatched up quickly during Yooper Days, so get ahead of the game and schedule your kayaking tour. Choose among Morning Delight, Afternoon Delight, the Paddle and Hike tour, or Paddler’s Choice. More than kayaking a river or lake, these trips give visitors the opportunity to kayak along the first national lakeshore of the U.S. in the greatest of the Great Lakes. The lakeshore is 42 miles long, and your trip gives you access to rock formations, waterfalls, and natural archways that are inaccessible by land. You won’t miss a moment of history or the natural landscape with our knowledgeable guided tours.

When you come for Pictured Rocks Days, bring the whole family. The days’ events include tons of kid activities, and they are some of the most excited adventurers to paddle Lake Superior. Our trips include kids 8 and up, so after watching raptors, listening to music and watching Roscoe the clown, discover Pictured Rocks in a whole new way – from the water!
