Miners Beach

Nestled within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Miners Beach is our home base for all kayak tours—and it’s easy to see why. This half-mile stretch of sugar sand borders the crystal-clear waters of Lake Superior and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding sandstone cliffs.

But Miners Beach is more than just a pretty launch point. It’s rich with history. The beach and nearby Miners Castle are named after early iron ore prospectors who explored this area in the 1800s. Though large-scale mining never took off here, the name stuck, and today it stands as a nod to the region’s rugged, resourceful past.

With the Miners River flowing gently into the lake, it’s a calm and accessible place to get comfortable in your kayak before heading east along the shoreline. From here, you’ll paddle past towering cliffs, hidden coves, and the iconic formations that make Pictured Rocks famous.

You see this beach on all of our kayaking tours.
