Kissing Rock
Kissing Rock is one of the most charming and playful stops along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is a spot where nature’s work of erosion has created something truly memorable. This unique formation features two massive sandstone slabs leaning in toward each other, creating the illusion that they’re sharing a kiss.
During calm lake conditions, kayakers can glide right through the center, making it a favorite moment on the tour and a fun photo opportunity.
Beyond its lighthearted name, Kissing Rock is a great example of how Pictured Rocks continues to evolve. The formation sits along the vibrant mineral-stained cliffs, surrounded by the same layered sandstone that defines the entire Lakeshore. It’s just one of many hidden gems that make this stretch of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula such a special place to explore.
