Chippewa VACATION DESCRIPTION
The ultimate vacation package for folks that think outside and enjoy camping modern style in a yurt at a campground on Lake Superior. Forget about wrestling with a tent and all that gear and sleeping on the ground. Yurts have a wooden floor, bunk beds, futon, table and chairs, a refrigerator, electrical outletsand WIFI. You have your own outdoor grill and a firepit for evening fires and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Many folks tell us that our restrooms are the cleanest they’ve ever seen. You should just bring your own bedding and cooking items if needed.
The ‘Paddle and Hike” kayak tour is the only way to see all of the Pictured Rocks in a one day tour. It has been described as Michigan’s Premier Summer time adventure. 14 mile paddle and 3 mile hike at the end. A continental breakfast before and a bag lunch is provided.
The Grand Island Sunset Dinner Cruise is a 27 mile circumnavigation around Grand Island which is the 3rd largest island on Lake Superior and has a beautiful shoreline of cliffs, sea arches, sea caves, beaches, wood lines, lighthouses, and a history of Native American Cultures that date back thousands of years.
The Au Train River is a gentle paddle through the Hiawatha National Forest taking from 3-4 hours from the South Bridge to the “take out spot” at the North Bridge. Enjoy this delightful paddle where you might see a variety of birds and wildlife as they come down to the river to drink. You might see ducks, songbirds, great blue herons, kingfishers, muskrats, and turtles. Loons and eagles often soar overhead. Enjoy this quiet relaxing trip for the entire family without rapids or portages along the river. . . . And don’t forget your camera.
The Shipwreck tour is an excursion back in time to the industrial ages of American shipping history. Let us introduce you to Lake Superior’s natural underwater museum featuring a rare, fully intact, wooden sailing ship that was built before the Civil War and sits only a few feet from the surface of the lake. The trip takes about 2 hours, visits two different shipwreck sites, rock cliffs and caves, a historic lighthouse, and the exquisite beauty of Grand Island and Munising Bay.
You will be eating and wetting your whistles at the Duck Pond Eatery and Beer Garden which is located next to the Paddlers Village. In addition to the free entrée on the Grand Island Sunset Dinner Cruise you will receive 2 additional dinner or lunch entrees.
